KANSAS CITY, Mo.—There’s a feeling that comes inside your heart when Shen Yun Performing Arts comes to town that can be quite unexplainable, yet you feel a strong urge to go see the performance.

“It just felt like this was something I was supposed to do,” said Ann Miller, who saw the classical Chinese dance company at the Muriel Kaufman Theatre on April 2.

She told NTD Television during intermission that Shen Yun was transmitting the power of peace and beauty. “I was led to come here tonight and in ways I can’t really explain,” she said. But after watching the first half of the show, Ms. Miller was beginning to get the message. Shen Yun had the potential to change her life.

The New York-based dance company has been dazzling the hearts and minds of audience members around the world. Numerous theatergoers including celebrities, ministers, doctors, lawyers, dancers, and musicians, have expressed feeling inspired and uplifted after witnessing the majesty of Shen Yun.

It’s Shen Yun’s mission to revive the 5,000-year history of China’s divine culture. Once upon a time, the land now known as China was called the “Land of the Divine,” states the Shen Yun website. It was a time of harmony with the heavens when all people revered the Divine.

Through heartrending dramatic dance pieces and bel canto vocalists singing powerfully moving songs, Shen Yun gives people hope and a reawakening of their own spiritual roots. Ms. Miller felt the performance was giving her a message of “universal faithism,” and the power of hope and peace.

“[The message] takes many forms, but I think it unites people all over the world,” she said.

Ms. Miller said she could identify with the message because as a life coach, she encourages her clients to get in touch with their own power. “It’s big stuff; it’s magical,” she added.

The magic of Shen Yun lies in the hands of the performers whose deeply moving renditions of inspirational myths and legends capture the essence of ancient China’s moral character. Audiences are transported back in time to a place where traditional values like truth, kindness, loyalty, and tolerance guided people’s actions toward one another.

Performances are unexpectedly enhanced by a full East meets West orchestra and a digital background, which adds animated scenes to the stage performance. Ms. Miller thought the beauty of the show was breathtaking.

“So many colors and so much movement,” she said, “I didn’t know what to expect at all.”

With another 60 minutes of the show ahead, Ms. Miller was looking forward to fully understanding why she felt strongly that she was supposed to be there.

“Thank you for choosing me. I’m looking forward to more,” she said to whatever it was that had called her.
