BERLIN—The curtain opened on Shen Yun Performing Arts 2009 World Tour at the world famous Fridrichstadtpalast on March 23, for the first of three performances in Berlin. Audience members were enchanted and applauded enthusiastically. Mr. Kopman, a Russian from Russmedia, a Russian newspaper, was among them.

Mr. Kopman was excited about the show. He especially enjoyed the balance of the performance, the colors, and the dances. “Very beautiful, colorful, emotional, truly I am excited. Very beautiful show, well-mixed with dancing.”

During his travels to Taipei, Mr. Kopman had already had contact with Chinese culture, but had never experienced anything like the Shen Yun performance. Through this show, he was able to gain a deeper impression of Chinese culture.

“Everything creates, in a manner of speaking, an overall picture. One cannot simply take one piece out of it. The music, the dancing, everything has to match. The costumes, the dances, everything was wonderful. This dance [classical Chinese dance] is indeed difficult, however, it belongs to this culture.”

Mrs. Genot, an administrative clerk at a large company in Berlin, was also enchanted by the performances.

“I thought it was wonderful, really awesome. It is conveyed very well.

“We have never seen anything like this. It is the very first time, and I find it great. All the costumes and the colors, and especially the acrobatics and everything else, everything was very beautiful. One can only say it is unique. ... It is truly impressive. I think especially the stories from Tibet and the persecution, they were also impressive. As a European, one does not really know anything about this.”

Mrs. Genot knew that the performances depicting the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China today would mean that this show would not be allowed to be performed in China. She explained, “This group is from New York and is now performing a world tour. It will not be performed in China, it is not allowed to be performed there due to the persecution.”

Talking about the final piece, Knowing the True Picture Offers Ultimate Hope where cosmic and earthly merge in a powerful vision of renewal, Mrs. Genot said, “I liked the positive side of this ... belief, and through belief, everything turned to the positive. The end unfortunately was sad, but it conveyed hope.”

This was the first of three Shen Yun performances at the Fridrichstadtpalast Berlin from March 23–25 as part of the 2009 World Tour. Shen Yun will be in Lodz, Poland, from March 27–28 on the next leg of the tour.
