“We’ve come a long way because tickets had run out in Seville,” Mrs. San Roman explained.

The couple saw the performance the evening of March 4, at the RiojaForum, catching the third of New York-based Shen Yun’s four performances in Logroño.

“Their art is wonderful, but I admire their courage even more, to fight against the oppression they have suffered and is suffering today. Because that is what makes me talk to people, that we tell all this. They are very brave,” said Mr. Cantudo, who is also familiar with his arts, his mother being the well known Spanish actress María José Cantudo.

“It is a wonderful message, and above all that they use culture for this, the performing arts to give this message, it is the most beautiful thing that exists. It’s the body expression without the verbal language is fantastic,” she said.

The costumes were elegant, she said, almost “vaporous,” enhancing the dancers’ “elegance in the gestures, in the dances and in their faces.”

The visuals, combined with “the wonderful music, the fantastic orchestra director, the instruments, the musicians,” gave Mrs. San Roman “a lot of tranquility, a lot of harmony ... a tranquility that I love.”
