Histamine intolerance is an increasingly common and often overlooked condition, estimated to affect about 1 to 3 percent of the global population. However, the true prevalence remains uncertain because of limited data, a lack of standardized diagnostic criteria, and limited awareness.

It is sometimes described as a pseudoallergy because symptoms can closely resemble those of food allergies.
