SAN DIEGO—The Divine Performing Arts (DPA) International Company were applauded by all for their final performance at the San Diego Civic Theatre on Sunday Dec. 28. Mr. and Mrs. Magpuri attended the performance with their daughter and enjoyed it immensely.

Mr. Magpuri, an artist and musician, loved everything, saying, “I really like the show, it was beautiful, excellent. I’m a musician, so I like the symphony, very nice ... the music, the composition is very original, very, very Chinese ... it’s good. So I like it, I like the music, it’s very fascinating.”

“And the dance is beautiful, the cinematography, I like the photography, and the costumes, and the dance itself is unique, it’s very, very nice. Everything excellent, beautiful show.”

When asked which performance was his favorite, he answered, “The ending, the finale, the last one [“Knowing the True Picture Offers Ultimate Hope”]. It’s more ... feeling to me, the background, the dancing. Excellent. If you love history, culture.”

Mr. Magpuri’s daughter, Ms. Parnsoonthorn who works in Pacific International Affairs, especially liked “The Monkey King Triumphs.” She said, “I especially liked the Monkey King, and the pig. I used to watch a Chinese film about it. So it was cool seeing it on stage, portrayed in a different way. And there were many aspects of Chinese culture that came to life on stage, and it was very colorful and very musical. Overall it was awesome.”

When talking about the computer backdrops for the performances, Mrs. Magpuri thought they were magical. “This is the first time I see this background ... It’s just like magic, fascinated, it’s like magic to me. It’s the technology, the computer.”

Ms. Parnsoonthorn added, “I guess it’s more of the creativity part, because you can only do so much with actors and props, but if you use technology ... to do animation, then it comes to life more, more interesting. It’s a creative way to do it. I like it because the integration is smooth, so it came out really well, and that made it really come to life ... I would say, magnificent, a fusion of the arts and culture of China.”

The Magpuri family were aware of the message of hope and peace in the performances and they were sad about the persecution of Falun Gong in China. Mr. Magpuri said, “If you express something that you believe in, like democracy, freedom, human rights, this is good. The show, overall, has a good message. So I think this show sent a message of human rights, and I think it’s good. Not only for this country, but for Europe and Asia.”

Mrs. Magrpuri added, “Well in this democratic world, its OK, but the Chinese government might think differently. You know? Because its oppression, oppression of the person to practice what he believes in.”

When asked if they would come again next year to see the show and invite their friends, they replied in unison, “Yes, yes, absolutely!”
