PORTLAND, Ore.—Mr. & Ms. Hall were among the enthralled audience members today at Portland’s Keller Auditorium on Tuesday, Jan. 20, to see The Divine Performing Arts (DPA) International Company “Chinese New Year Spectacular.” The Keller Auditorium, the nexus of the city’s fine arts and music scene, is located near the heart of downtown Portland.

Mr. and Mrs. Hall were schoolyard sweethearts and married shortly afterwards. They now work together, and both were captivated by the show.

Mr. Hall, a company president and computer programmer, said, “I truly love the show, it’s excellent, very beautiful.”

Ms. Hall, a dancer, dance teacher, and computer programmer, added, “I like it very much, I like the quality, it’s very fine and the costumes are exquisite, and the colors of the costumes are amazing to. I wasn’t expecting that.”

“It’s very aesthetic, it’s very elevated, it’s very spiritual.”

“I like the way they cover the stage, [the way] they move, and they use the entire stage, and there is something going on all the time. A lot of times you’ll see a little cluster in the corner on the stage with some dance groups, but this group uses the entire stage, and it’s very beautifully done.”

“I especially liked ‘Flowing Sleeves,’ because they were used in a different way than I’ve ever seen before, they were almost like butterfly wings.”

“The costume matched the movements, and it all pulled together very beautifully, and it was a complete composition.”

“Flowing Sleeves” is a dance performed with long, flowing, silken sleeves, representing the tremendous feminine grace reminiscent of the women of the celebrated Tang imperial court (A.D. 618–907). Their elegance and majestic bearing suggest the magnificence of that era—often regarded as the pinnacle of Chinese civilization.

The DPA International Company will now head to New York for its next performance.
