SEOUL, South Korea—In the first stop of its tour across Asia, the classical Chinese music and dance company, the New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts, arrived at South Korea’s capital city of Seoul on Feb. 16.
Members of Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company arrived at the Seoul Incheon International Airport at around 6 p.m. Their shining smiles and elegant demeanor, along with the flowers and applause they received, brightened up the entrance hall of this world-class international airport.
“We have brought with us brand new programs to South Korea. Our performances promotes true, authentic traditional Chinese culture. Since the Korean culture is connected to the Chinese culture, I think the Korean audience will appreciate our performances very much,” Ms. Tia Zhang, company manager of Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company and choreographer, said when she was interviewed by the local media.
“We present to audience a purely upright, good (or benevolent, compassionate; original Chinese is Shan), and beautiful artistic entertainment, which can truly inspire the good (or benevolent) side of people. This good (or benevolent) nature is something people have in common. Therefore Eastern and Western audience alike are touched by Shen Yun,” she added.
Ms. Michelle Ren, choreographer and principal dancer of Shen Yun and winner of the first prize in New Tang Dynasty Television’s 2007 International Chinese Classical Dance Competition, talked about the rave reviews the company has received while touring the world, “We just completed 52 shows in North America and we have received overwhelming audience feedback in every city we visited. For example, the theater in Washington D.C is a top national theater. It does not accept shows with just average level performance and only accepts top, world-class performances. We had seven shows in February and August last year. We just had another seven shows recently and they were all ‘full house’ shows.”
