HONOLULU—Traditional Chinese culture presented itself via performing arts at the Shen Yun show at the Blaisdell Concert Hall in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Ms. Mochimura, a professional designer, watched the performance. She was impressed by the performance, saying that “It was beautiful. Excellent. The color [and the] the portrayal of the stories.”

Many ancient stories from Chinese culture are presented on stage via dance accompanied with a world-class orchestra, which presents the values of the traditional Chinese culture, spanning 5,000 years. Ms. Mochimura felt Shen Yun provided a “great interpretation” of the stories from the past.

As a designer, she was most impressed with “the costumes, the whole story portrayal, interpretation has just been fascinating. It’s a beautiful, beautiful show.”

She added, “I recommend it to anyone and everyone to come to see it.”

She felt that she could gain some inspiration from the women’s clothing that is contained within the show saying that it is “quite beautiful—how they [Shen Yun] combine and mix colors.”

Mr. Colwell, who works emergency operations center at the state Civil Defence Department was delighted with the performance as well.

He said, “Each of the dances are very, very pretty. ... It looks like the interpretations reflect closely what came in the past in the Han dynasty or other dynasties throughout China.”

Adding further, he said, “I especially like the dance the costumes of the Dance of the Yi. Yes, that was really pretty. And the coming of spring [Welcoming Spring] was very pretty, I enjoyed that very much.”

In the Dance of the Yi, which shows the Yi people, one of southern China’s largest ethnic groups, dancing colorful movements with rainbow skirts.

Mr. Colwell added, “I’m having a good time. I’m glad I bought tickets for this.

“It looks like arts and culture in China that have been suppressed in China by the communists through the years, trying to prevent anything that looks like it ... from being performed.

“The communist government does not like that kind of stuff. They want to present their own culture to set plant [plant their own] ... culture of China.”

During the Great Cultural Revolution, the Chinese regime attempted to destroy the longstanding traditional culture in China and many art forms were lost.

According to Shen Yun, one of its missions is to revive traditional Chinese culture that has been lost.
