BOSTON—Mr. Berenson, a lawyer, had no expectations before watching the “Chinese New Year Spectacular” performing at the Boston Opera House on the evening of Saturday Jan. 10, saying, “I did not know what I was going to see, but what I’ve been experiencing is just beautifully done.”

He continued, “Costumes are delightful and stunning and exciting to watch, the dancers are beautiful to look at, the choreography is wonderful, and their ability to hold and freeze positions is remarkable. I am fully delighted.”

Classical Chinese dance is a unique dance heritage. In its early stages it was mainly passed down among the common people, through members of the imperial court, and as part of ancient theater. Over the years, dancers refined, experimented with, and reworked it to arrive at the extraordinary system of Chinese classical dance known today.

Mr. Berenson watched the show with his fiancé who had wanted to come in past years and now had the opportunity saying, “We got tickets at the Chestnut Hill Mall and couldn’t be more delighted.” he said.

Mr. Berenson spoke about the messages he got from the show: “Some of the messages that come through the dancers and the performances are very poignant, and having the gentleman and the lady introducing each part of the program helps immensely, so I understand what I’m about to see. It definitely enhances the experience,” he said

Divine Performing Arts presents classical Chinese dance and music in gloriously colorful and exhilarating shows. An art form some three millennia old, Chinese dance is refreshingly dynamic and expressive. Ancient legends and heroic figures come to life through its leaps, spins, and delicate gestures.

Mr. Berenson liked the spiritual messages the solo singers were expressing,

“The messages are nice, and the two soloists with the words in the background, it’s a wonderful experience. The background, the geography, the animated background adds to the total experience.” he said.
