An Arizona couple was in the middle of their wedding ceremony when patches of black smoke emerged nearby, emerging from an apartment that was on fire.
The fire was only half a mile away, but J.T. and Carly Morrissey didn’t let fear get a hold of them, and continued the celebration.
The fire was seen around 6 p.m., after the newly wedded couple had started dancing.
“I remember getting on the dance floor and being excited about it,” Carly told ABC News. “And I remember making that first turn and just seeing that big gray plume of smoke and [saying], ‘What’s going on?’ And I remember thinking, ‘OK, well, I’m sure it’s no big deal.”
The local fire department had to deploy 40 firetrucks to put out the blaze, which was big enough that local residents had to be evacuated.
Fortunately, only one person was injured in the fire, a firefighter who had suffered a heat-related injury.
“We’re really thankful for all of the first responders and firefighters...and everyone that went there to make sure it stayed under control and make sure everybody was OK,” J.T. said.
