VANCOUVER, British Columbia—The Shen Yun Performing Arts show, currently playing at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, appeals to people for different reasons. For Ms. Young, a biofeedback counselor and fashion consultant who owns her own business, the colours of the costumes and the staging were particularly meaningful.

“Spectacular! It’s the vibrancy of the colours that really spoke to me. Just all the different variations and the colour combinations really. I really loved seeing the flowing fabric and the bright magentas and the yellows.

“I work with color therapy a lot so vibrant colour really speaks to me, and is very exciting. That’s my passion—colour—so when I saw the show it was just so exciting to see what to bring in ways of colour combinations.

“The vibrancy of colour speaks of life. There’s a lot of good energy flow with the vibrancy of colours. When we see more dark colours we tend to see more depression, more lack of energy. This show speaks of vitality.”

Referring to the dance, Knowing the True Picture Offers Ultimate Hope, Ms. Young said:

“When you see the long yellow scarves flowing in the air, the yellow is very energetic, the yellow is very energizing to the consciousness.”

As for Welcoming Spring, she said, “I love the petals, they’re just gorgeous. Magenta is humanitarian, angelic, and [represents] the selfless love that we give in humanity.”

Ms. Young was also impressed by the colours in the innovative backdrops, which are custom-designed to coordinate with the costumes, choreography, lighting, and storyline for each dance.

“The backdrop with the water and the trees [had] lots of greens and blues. I loved seeing the trees—that was very good visually for me.”

Shen Yun will present four more shows in Vancouver before going on to Calgary, Edmonton, and Regina.
