WASHINGTON—Through stunning dance and breathtaking music, Shen Yun Performing Arts leaves audiences around the world bathed in the richness of genuine Chinese culture.

For Alex Emdadi, manager at logistics company LaserShip, and Shafiqah Alawadhi, statistics professor at American University, Shen Yun was off the charts.

“Oh it’s beautiful, I love it,” said Ms. Alawadhi, adding that although she attended a performance last year, this year’s was not the same—it was superior. “I feel it’s different,” she said. “Yeah, it’s so beautiful—I love it.”

“The performance, the choreography, and the costumes—it was absolutely fabulous,” said Mr. Emdadi.

“Through the universal language of music and dance, Shen Yun weaves a wondrous tapestry of heavenly realms, ancient legends, and modern heroic tales, taking you on a journey through 5,000 years of Chinese culture,” reads Shen Yun’s website. “Its stunning beauty and tremendous energy leave audiences uplifted and inspired.”

That energy was not lost upon Mr. Emdadi and Ms. Alawadhi.

“You know, it’s always about the good things that beat the hate and these sorts of things,” Ms. Alawadhi said, adding that she was especially struck by Shen Yun’s vocalists, who sing original compositions in the highly technical bel canto style.

“Peace, good spirit, good karma,” added Mr. Emdadi.

“I would tell all of my friends to definitely attend it—it’s really worth it to come and see it,” he said. “In the busy daily activities that we have—having such joyful and having such unique and free spirit—[Shen Yun] just travels to your inside.”

Ms. Alawadhi agreed: “Yeah, you will have peace and release of mind. It takes all your negatives and you will be happy.”
