‘Both sides will stand down for now and vessels can move freely,’ a U.S. official said.
Multiple strikes were carried out by both the U.S. and Iranian militaries over the weekend.
The U.S. Central Command said the strikes were conducted in response to an Iranian drone attack that struck an oil tanker earlier on June 27.
Although Iran did not claim the attack on a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, the IRGC said it had targeted American positions in the region.
The U.S. State Department published the text of the agreement, which has the backing of the United States and aims to achieve ‘lasting peace’ in the region.
