WOKING, UK—“The whole experience was brilliant! The performance was fantastic. I thought it was really well put together, a great production.” Edward Whitehouse, CEO of Whitehouse Capital, said after watching Shen Yun Performing Arts at the New Victoria Theatre on Jan. 24.

Shen Yun Performing Arts is a New York-based classical Chinese dance and music company. Since its founding in 2006, it has been touring the world, presenting the beauty of China before communism through dance stories and a live orchestra, integrating symphonic sounds of both Eastern and Western instruments.

Mr. Whitehouse enjoyed the musicof Shen Yun tremendously. “The music was brilliant. I thought the fusion of both the Eastern and Western instruments came together really, really poetically, and it was just a fantastic show.”
He also loved the solo performances and the piano accompaniment. “The two-string violin was beautiful, absolutely beautiful! And the pianist as well, she was brilliant, and in the first act as well with the Tenor. I thought that was beautiful.”

Shen Yun tells myths of ancient China, aspiring to revive the lost culture.“I think that some of the stories were absolutely fantastic. The fairy tales came across really well.” Mr. Whitehouse said, “But there was clearly a few deeper messages behind it. And I think those really shone through the medium of dance.”

He said that since his wife is from Hong Kong, he knew a little about what happened there, “one of the most prominent acts that will probably stay with me was the dance story of the persecution [of Falun Gong]. It really hammers home that there is still challenges in mainland China. I thought that was really a powerful message.”

Another dance that took his breath away was the water sleeve dance. “It was just beautiful. I think it’s very difficult not to be blown away by that.”

Mr. Whitehouse agrees with Shen Yun’s mission of reviving traditional Chinese culture, “I think the world’s a better place if they understand a bit of the past and how the past can intertwine with the future. We live in a very fast-paced, consumer-driven society. A little bit of divinity and a little bit of reconnection is a good thing for all of us.”

“Embracing the Chinese culture, it was just brilliant. I think everyone should see it.” Mr. Whitehouse said.

To the Shen Yun artists, Mr. Whitehouse has this message: “You guys are all fantastic. I think the message you’re spreading is brilliant. The whole performance was beautiful!”
