ORLANDO, Fla.—Shen Yun Performing Arts opened with a dazzling performance in Orlando, Florida, at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts on April 27. Audience members praised the artists for their outstanding performance.

“Tonight’s show was amazing. The word that kept coming to mind was excellence. Everything that you saw, everything that you heard, was nothing but excellence. And I walked out of that performance hall totally inspired,” Michael Simpson, the conductor of the Vero Beach Chamber Orchestra, said.

Murtice Tucker, a contractor, said, “It was excellent. I loved it. A lot of good scenes and the way the artist performed, it was very phenomenal. You can tell they put a lot of effort into it.”

Patrick Bartee, a speech professor, said, “To see it live just doesn’t even compare to what you see on the commercials. It was amazing just to see how the film came off the screen and just came to life. It was amazing.”

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from “China before communism,” through classical Chinese dance and music.

Mr. Simpson said, “The dancers were amazing because they’re so good. They’re very good, they’re very well trained, they’re agile, they’re athletic. And again, very artistic. You can follow the stories. You can follow the movement. You could follow what was being told, what was being shown.”

Shen Yun features a live orchestra with a unique blend of classical Western and Eastern instruments. Audience members also enjoyed the two-stringed erhu’s solo performance.

Mr. Simpson said, “I’ve heard erhu before. I’ve never heard one played quite that well, just very nicely in tune, just technically perfect, and just a beautiful tune. You could tell she was playing from her heart. I really enjoyed it.”

Mr. Simpson added, “I was really into the orchestra, so everything was just beautiful. There was nothing left to chance. Everything was flawless.”

Mr. Tucker said, “I loved it. I loved it. You have a very good orchestra. The sound is phenomenal, even the way it’s set up. So the acoustics are just perfect.

“I definitely recommend it,” he said. “You’ve got to try it at least once. And you’ll probably do it again and again after that.”

Shen Yun will be performing in Stamford, Connecticut, from May 7–10.
