AUSTIN, Texas—Andrea Golato, dean of the graduate college at Texas State University, summed up Shen Yun Performing Arts in one feeling—happiness.
“They are joyful and happy,” Ms. Golato said of the colors she saw across the stage at the Long Center for the Performing Arts, in Austin Dec. 29. “The colors are beautiful.”
New York-based Shen Yun was established in 2006 to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization. Through performing arts, Shen Yun brings the once almost-lost, divinely inspired culture to life.
The costumes, as Shen Yun’s website explains, are meticulously detailed and aim to present the authentic traditional attire, which is said to be inspired by the heavens. Hundreds of costume pieces are created for the all-new performances every season.
The music, too, inspired happiness, Ms. Golato said. “It’s joyful,” she said, adding that the spirituality of the culture was positive as well.
“There’s support, happiness, and that’s what I would think [is common between cultures],” Ms. Golato said.
“It’s very nice, we’re enjoying it,” Ms. Golato said.
