“I thought it was extraordinary in every way. The music, the dancing, the sound, the technologies applied to a cultural and dance event. Through this performance, we’ve learned things about China that we didn’t know before: its music, folklore, and the way its traditions are interpreted and presented to us,” member of the Basque Parliament Irune Zuluaga Zamalloa said.
“Wonderful. Very colorful,” another parliamentarian Mikel Arruabarrena Azpitarte said. “The show is beautiful and the message it conveys is also beautiful: a message of freedom and of ancient Chinese culture.”
“Honestly, it’s spectacular. It’s a combination of lights, colors, and magic. We had heard very good things about it, but seeing it in person is even more impressive,” member of the parliament Santiago López Céspedes said.
MP Zamalloa said, “I didn’t expect that, and I was struck by the reference to traditional Chinese spiritual values and how they are conveyed to us through the songs.” She added that, “If they are the values of a people, they must be made known and passed on. Then, each viewer will give them greater or lesser value. I understand that the greatest value is for the Chinese community itself. They are the ones who have to interpret it, but it should be made known, of course.”
MP Azpitarte said, “Today’s show conveys a little bit of what China was like before the Cultural Revolution, which was a real genocide. And that’s why it’s beautiful, it’s beautiful artistically and it’s also beautiful because of its message.”
“I think it’s the opposite of what is sometimes conveyed to us from China, that everything is uniform, a single way of thinking, a single way of seeing things. I believe it helps us look at China with much better eyes, without a doubt,” MP Céspedes said.
Based in New York, Shen Yun has been touring the world since 2006, and has grown to eight different companies. Shen Yun currently cannot perform in China due to the regime’s brutal persecution of faith.
“A colleague mentioned that they have even had difficulties ... with staging this same show in Spain due to interference from the Chinese government. That is truly sad because it speaks of a past era and of oppressive or censoring regimes, which are, of course, the complete opposite of what we stand for here,” MP Céspedes said.
“You are doing essential work. You are the voice of the real China. Keep it up. Best of luck,” MP Azpitarte said.
“They should keep doing it. I congratulate them, the entire organization, the whole team, and everyone behind it, both over these past 20 years and, hopefully, over the next 20. I encourage everyone to come because it is especially brilliant and truly spectacular,” MP Céspedes said. “It’s a combination of light, colors, and magic that is truly amazing to experience and truly spectacular to see in person and live. So I encourage everyone to come.”
“Twenty years is a long time, and I wish them another 20 and another 20 of success around the world,” MP Zamalloa said. “They will see something different, extraordinarily well done, aesthetically, musically, technologically very well done, but which conveys things related to the spirit, tradition, and history of a people.”
