VALENCIA, Spain—“I loved it. It’s truly amazing and very moving,” said Mónica Honrubia Gómez after attending a performance by Shen Yun Performing Arts.

Ms. Honrubia is a government official and serves as head of the personnel office at a government institution. On the evening of March 7, 2026, she attended Shen Yun’s opening performance at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía together with her mother. Both of them said they greatly enjoyed the performance.

Ms. Honrubia explained that attending the performance was especially meaningful because it was a gift for her mother.

“It was a gift I wanted to give my mother for Christmas,” she said. “I’m very happy about the gift I gave her, because the show is really impressive.”

Based in New York, Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company, with a mission to revive traditional Chinese culture. Since its founding in 2006, the company has presented an entirely new program each year, captivating audiences around the world.

Ms. Honrubia said she enjoyed every aspect of the performance.

“I love everything about it—the dance and the colors you see on stage,” she said. “The music is perfect, because the sound is perfect. Everything is perfect. That’s how I would define it—perfect.”

During the performance, she and her mother also saw a piece depicting the persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners in China. Ms. Honrubia said the scene left a deep impression on her.

“I was just talking about it with my mother,” she said. “It’s very shocking that something like this is still happening today. But it’s also typical of socialism and communism. It’s a shame, because Chinese culture is such a rich culture, yet it is so restricted and persecuted in China. It’s really unfortunate,” she said.

Through classical Chinese dance, Shen Yun portrays the beauty of Chinese culture as well as the true nature of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Since the CCP rose to power, it has systematically distorted and destroyed Chinese culture with movements like the Cultural Revolution. In 1999, unable to tolerate the widespread popularity of the spiritual practice Falun Dafa, the regime launched a nationwide persecution against practitioners who follow the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance.

China’s cultural splendor and the present-day reality portrayed on stage deeply moved Ms. Honrubia. She said she was deeply moved from the very beginning.

“It’s very, very emotional. I don’t even know how to explain it,” she said. “From the moment the performance started, I felt like crying. It’s very emotional. I would truly invite everyone to come and see it.”
