SEVILLE, Spain—“Divine and beautiful,” said Susana Ríos Pérez when sharing her impressions of Shen Yun. “What I love most is the spiritual experience it brings. This is what I truly enjoy.”

On the evening of March 24, floral business owners David Domínguez Lavado and his wife, Susana Ríos Pérez, attended Shen Yun’s opening performance at the Cartuja Center Cite theater in Seville, Spain.

The couple, who have run a family floral design business for more than 30 years, are known in their region for creating arrangements for large celebrations and church decorations. Traveling two and a half hours from Cádiz specifically to see the performance, they said the journey was well worth it.

Mr. Domínguez was especially struck by the overall harmony of the production. “Spectacular, and above all, the harmony,” he said. “The harmony and the Chinese tradition—we love it, it is very beautiful. And it gives you a calm, a peace, and a serenity. The show was impressive.”

Mr. Domínguez really enjoyed the dance piece ‘Water Sleeve Dance,’ while Ms. Ríos was particularly impressed by the ‘Peacock Dance.’ “It’s very beautiful,” she said.

Based in New York, Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company, with a mission to revive 5,000 years of China’s divinely inspired heritage and share with audiences the beauty of China before communism.
Before attending Shen Yun, the couple said they were not aware of the spiritual depth of traditional Chinese culture. “We did not know,” Mr. Domínguez said. Ms. Ríos echoed the sentiment, adding, “No, we did not know. But I really liked that part a lot.” Reflecting on what he took away from the experience, Mr. Domínguez said, “Always giving thanks, always very grateful for everything—that is something we value very much. That’s what the culture is about.”
Turning to the role of tradition, Ms. Ríos emphasized its enduring moral value. “Yes. A lot of tradition is needed,” she said. “Why? I see it because it has values. Tradition has values—good values.” Mr. Domínguez agreed, underscoring the relevance of such principles today: “We must never lose gratitude, good treatment, harmony, and above all empathy. Today we need a lot of empathy.”
Learning that Shen Yun is unable to perform in China, the couple expressed regret. “It is a shame that they cannot perform there,” Ms. Ríos said. Mr. Domínguez added, “That is something that goes against our thinking.”
