Theatergoers in Silicon Valley shared their experience of seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts from the theater the day after Christmas.

“I love the vibrant colors, the dancers, and their agility; everything, everything, and the comedy part too,” Tuhina Ghoshal, a radio personality at Radio Zindagi, said.

Xak Puckett, CEO of Beyond Belief Games, said the ballet techniques are “very fluid.”

“I thought it was very dynamic, and you can tell they worked really hard on creating such a masterpiece of artwork,” Mr. Puckett said.

Marcela Coral, a recruiting consultant, saw Shen Yun for the first time.

“I felt like it was very special. All of the performances and also the singers were amazing,” Ms. Coral said.

The New York-based company is bringing to life the culture of “China before communism” in its performances—a culture that the Chinese Communist Party has tried to erase since taking power. Even today, the persecution of faith and ancient traditions continues. That’s why Shen Yun still cannot perform in China.

“It’s sad that part of your culture is being suppressed in China,” entrepreneur Tim Gassaway said. “But that there’s something in it that is divine, that is alive and can’t be extinguished despite all efforts. And so, yes, it’s inspirational.”

Jeanna Murray, a designer from Orange County, believes Shen Yun’s mission is important.

“I’m gonna go home and read up and learn more about it, and I hope that the stories and all the traditions continue to be shared. It’s very special,” Ms. Murray said.

Danielle Mailland, a designer, said Shen Yun showed to her that in “every culture, every religion, there is a divine entity.”

“It was so beautiful to see that different interpretation and knowing that there is salvation,” she said. “We’re having struggles, we’re having hardships, and people are scorned for believing and having faith and love in a divine entity, no matter which religion you’re in.”

She said she felt saddened about the persecution people of faith face under communism in China.

“I was so grateful that I was able to experience someone else’s side or vision of what I believe in,” Ms. Mailland said.

Shen Yun 2026 is touring across five continents, celebrating its 20 years of carrying forward a divinely-inspired culture. Shen Yun has eight companies touring simultaneously.

Radio personality Ms. Ghoshal said Shen Yun’s themes of spirituality “definitely connected [with me] right away.”

“We also believe in hope and positivity, and having a faith is very important these days,” she said.

Sumit De Bhaumik, a senior human resources director, said he felt entranced at every moment.

“We watched with rapt attention,” he said.

“The way they kept it humorous and witty. At the same time, they came across with very explicit but simple explanations of what’s going on—the stories,” Mr. De Bhaumik added.

“It was very enjoyable,” he said. “Spectacular indeed, and very dazzling.”

“This was my first time, and I hope to see it again,” designer Ms. Mailland said. “It was absolutely amazing. Absolutely amazing.”
