VANCOUVER, Canada—Tony Hunt, a North America segment leader for a global company, attended Shen Yun Performing Arts’ matinee for the first time on April 12 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. He was thoroughly impressed.
“I’m thrilled with it. The thing I really enjoy is the mixture of the audiovisual effects, and the colors are extremely vibrant,” he shared.
“I like how they engage the real dancing, and with the [3D digital backdrop,] that was a nice surprise, how crisp and bright it is.”
To enhance storytelling, the company’s patented 3D digital technology seamlessly collaborates with performers on stage to create a magical illusion for the audience.
Since its establishment in 2006, the New York-based Shen Yun has earned widespread acclaim. Each year, the artists present a brand-new set of choreography and musical compositions, ensuring that both new and returning audience members are always in for a surprise.
Mr. Hunt appreciated that, in addition to classical Chinese dance, Shen Yun also presents folk and ethnic dances, as well as solo musical performances.
“The variety [of programs] are tremendous,” he said. “The humor is nice, and then having a live orchestra really brings it together.”
The name ‘Shen Yun” translates directly into “the beauty of divine beings dancing.” The performers have made it their mission to revive, through dance and music, China’s divinely inspired civilization to its pre-communist glory.
Not very familiar with Chinese culture, Mr. Hunt said he walked into the theatre with an open mind, ready to “just absorb all the different stories.”
The matinee did not disappoint. He deeply appreciated the story-based dances, which recount legends from ancient times to the present day and explore themes of kindness and generosity.
Summing up the experience, Mr. Hunt said Shen Yun “is a show that’s conveying things like togetherness, and there’s a lot of joy and artistic expression.”
“There’s also a bit of humor, which is fun as well,” he added. “The quality of the people and the music and everything is put together extremely well.”
