NEW YORK—There was much to take in and enjoy for Carl Ruggiero at the matinee performance of Shen Yun Performing Arts at the David H. Koch Theater on March 28.
Mr. Ruggiero, managing partner in a law firm, said, “The show was really, really good. The music was spectacular and original. I would say the dancing, and the message, as well.”
Mr. Ruggiero felt the message deeply. “The materialist can’t take the sense of the Divine that everybody has. They‘ll never win because we’re more than just the sum of our appetites, and they’ll never crush a human spirit, no matter how hard they try,” he said.
He noted the fight for people’s hearts and minds that’s been going on in the world. “There’s a struggle going on right now that’s been for the last 300 years. We'll see the materialist versus people who understand that there’s something more to the human person,” Mr. Ruggiero said.
He stressed how relevant this spiritual message is for today’s society. “It’s kosher. Absolutely, it’s an old message.”
Mr. Ruggiero elaborated on the importance of Shen Yun’s message. “I think at several levels—The level of our life; there’s also the level of what is the purpose, what’s the meaning, what’s the ultimate purpose [of life].”
“I’m a Catholic, and I go towards the traditional part of Catholicism,” Mr. Ruggiero said. “So I see a lot of parallels in the belief. Obviously, they’re different. We have a lot of issues and problems today. It’s a sign of somebody doing something really, really wrong.”
“I think it resonates. That happens in a lot of places all over the world, and is still happening. Many people are suffering for their beliefs. This is an old, old story.
