SAO PAULO, Brazil—Victor Rizzini Fuchs da Silva, who works in international relations, and Maila Dias Moura, a company manager, attended Shen Yun Performing Arts’ evening performance for the first time at the Bradesco Theater on May 2. Mr. da Silva thought the experience was fantastic.
“It is magical, and at the same time, it is very historical. [It takes us back] to the time of the [Chinese] empire, and the stories are brought to the present day in such a faithful way. We traveled through time to meet the heroes of the past,” he exclaimed.
The New York-based Shen Yun was founded in 2006 by elite Chinese artists who had fled the persecution of the communist party.
For millennia, China’s civilization flourished under the shared belief that the divine will bless those who uphold traditional moral values. Tragically, within just a few decades of the communist party’s violent takeover, these beliefs were erased and replaced with atheism.
Mrs. Dias Moura loved that the performers are sharing their belief in the divine with a global audience. Previously, her understanding of China had been limited to politics and finance, so she was pleasantly surprised by such a spectacular display of “this divine vision.”
“It was amazing, we thought it was wonderful. The spirituality—it inspired me a lot,” she said. “You take this as inspiration for your life. It was something we did not imagine that was inside the Chinese culture. It was wonderful.”
For Mrs. Dias Moura, the message she’ll be bringing home with her from Shen Yun is one of “strength, courage, and the will to fight for what’s right.”
The couple plans to recommend Shen Yun to all their friends and family. Mr. da Silva has high hopes that the artists will succeed in their mission to revive traditional culture “with the strength of the divine by their side.”
Summing up the evening, Mrs. Dias Moura joyfully said the performance was “excellent, magnificent, beautiful, magical, emotional, and enchanting.”
