LUBBOCK, Texas—Terry Hucks, a media executive at a local television station, enjoyed Shen Yun Performing Arts at The Buddy Holly Hall on Jan. 6.
“I love the fact that it’s so traditional and it shows the beautiful culture and the heritage of the Chinese people,“ Mr. Hucks said. ”So, it’s just beautiful! Classic, culture, integrity ... I love those things.”
Established 20 years ago in New York, Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company. Its mission is to revive China’s traditional culture and share it with the world.
Mr. Hucks said he appreciated Shen Yun’s depiction of China’s traditional heritage as told through classical Chinese dance.
“If you don’t know the history and the culture, the dance helps to explain that in a visual way ... you can actually see it come to life through the dances,” he said.
As for the high-caliber performance of the Shen Yun artists, Mr. Hucks said, “I can’t imagine how much training that has taken.”
In addition to dance pieces, Shen Yun includes solo performances, such as baritone solos. Mr. Hucks said he enjoyed the singing, the lyrics, and especially the piano accompaniment. “The baritone and the pianist were beautiful, very talented,” he said.
Mr. Hucks appreciated the performance’s spirituality. “[It] brings a spiritual element to life. That’s where we all need to get closer to,“ he said, ”We should focus on our faith and our spirituality and not as much as on what’s here on Earth. That’s what I loved about it.”
Mr. Hucks was especially grateful for Shen Yun’s artistic director. “He [the artistic director] created something that will touch people around the world,” he said
“It’s something that touches people’s lives and takes them away from what’s happening here and gives them some peace and hope of what’s to come,” he said.
“I would just like to have more people to see it and understand more about the culture and the heritage.”
