AUSTIN, Texas—Transformational coach Lars King said Shen Yun Performing Arts is “magical,” after attending the company’s evening show on Jan. 21, with Emily Wiebe, a healing specialist.
“I cried. I laughed. I felt connected with so many different parts of the Chinese story and culture that I didn’t even know about,” he shared in the lobby of The Long Center for the Performing Arts.

Mr. King was very impressed by the harmony of the entire production.
“Seeing everyone moving in this very heartfelt way,” he said, “where everyone was synchronized—it was not coming from their minds, it was coming from their heart intelligence. Everyone could feel that.”
Ms. Wiebe also enjoyed the performance.
“It’s not only beautiful to watch, but to know that there’s a purpose along with it, that it’s actually being driven by a genuine belief and feeling—that’s an extra touch, an extra detail. It adds a depth.”
Reflecting on the story-based dance depicting the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of spirituality and the people’s steadfast conviction to uphold their beliefs, Ms. Wiebe said, “It’s beautiful.”
“It’s a very peaceful way, not just necessarily protest, but to express the story of what happened and to bring awareness and unity and also mutual understanding,” she expressed.
“I really believe in love, the way Shen Yun is standing up for themselves without encouraging violence. … There has been so much violence, and [the performance] is such a beautiful yet powerful way to speak truth. It’s almost like a very beautiful example of how you can speak your truth and express it without having to be violent or hurting others.”
Mr. King is already planning his return trip. “I want more,” he said. “The fact that they do it totally new every year—it’s amazing. I would totally come another year.”
