FOLSOM, Calif.—Retired attorney Michael Adams saw Shen Yun Performing Arts on Jan. 7 at the Harris Center.
“I like dance of all types, but it’s just a spectacular performance. It’s multimedia, the use of the screen, the dance, the choreography. The easier question is what didn’t I like, and the answer is nothing, said Mr. Adams, who also said that this is his second time seeing Shen Yun. “I liked everything about it.”
Shen Yun, based in New York, is on a mission to present “China before communism,” and revive people’s connection with 5,000 years of Chinese civilization and culture.
“I think that’s a wonderful thing,” Mr. Adams said. “I am a traditionalist. The idea that something has survived for hundreds if not thousands of years, there’s a reason for that.”
He said he appreciated both the ancient and modern aspects of the performance.
Mr. Adams said that in a world that is adapting and changing constantly, it’s important to maintain a grasp on where we came from.
“People all over the world working on things, excluding things, adopting things. Knowing where you come from is an important thing. I love learning about other cultures too. I love dance performances,” he said.
