PARIS, France—From May 1 to 10, Shen Yun Performing Arts will take the stage at the Palais des Congrès for an immersive journey through 5,000 years of authentic traditional Chinese culture.

On Saturday, May 2, Patrice Baby experienced “a treat for both the mind and the eyes!” as he discovered New York-based Shen Yun.

“It’s phenomenal to see such choreography, such precision in the scenes and the dances—it’s breathtaking! I’m at a loss for words,” gushed the project manager at a major pharmaceutical and dermocosmetics company.

Right from the start, Patrice Baby said he was impressed “by the choreography and the scene changes,” while praising “the way the history of China was presented in the various scenes.”
“This transition from one scene to another is chronologically very interesting and teaches us Westerners a great deal about life, the origins, and the history of China. It’s really fascinating!”

Dedication, Selflessness, Strength

Describing his own role as being “in a sales position where each individual’s contribution is crucial,” Mr. Baby said he was deeply moved by the dedication of the Shen Yun artists, who he said were answering “a calling” and presenting a vehicle for “powerful emotion.”

“I am deeply moved to see such dedication, selflessness, and strength in the choreography, as this applies to both classical dance and competitive dance,” the project manager said.

In ancient times, China was known as the “Land of the Divine,” as the ancient Chinese believed their culture was a legacy from the gods. Shen Yun means “the beauty of divine beings dancing” and thus pays tribute to a rich culture deeply rooted in spirituality.

Mr. Baby said he learned “a lot in that regard—about the connection that may exist between the heavens, our origins, and the events unfolding today.”

In a global context he considers complex, Mr. Baby emphasized the importance of this message: “It is more than important to reconnect with this link between heaven and earth.”

For him, the performance brought a sense of “inner peace”: “You feel truly at peace, and you tell yourself that humanity isn’t lost after all, that there is still hope and a future for us, for humanity.”

Dany Verschaeve traveled all the way from Lille just to see Shen Yun in Paris.

“Shen Yun is very moving!” the former executive in international trade said. “It’s true that you leave feeling completely different. I love Chinese dance—it’s magnificent! It’s hard to put into words, but it really touches my heart—I love it!”

Mr. Verschaeve praised the high caliber of the performers, as well as the visual and technical richness of the show; particularly the use of interactive digital scenery that is a hallmark of Shen Yun productions.

“The scene with the screen makes the show even more spectacular,” he said.

Moved by the spiritual and heartwarming nature of the show, Mr. Verschaeve said he was “very happy to have spent the evening there.”

“It’s hard to explain, but it’s absolutely wonderful,” he said.

For him, Shen Yun conveys a powerful message. “You have a message to share; you are messengers of ideas,” he said.

Shen Yun also gives us food for thought: “It makes us reflect on what happened in the past and what is happening today.”

Impressed by the experience, Mr. Verschaeve said: “It’s absolutely one-of-a-kind! I came all the way from the North just to see the show again, and I’ll be back next year.”
