MONTERREY, Mexico—Shen Yun Performing Arts dazzled audiences in Monterrey on April 26. Patrons were left in awe and commented on the beauty and artistry of the New York-based company showcasing “China before communism” around the world.

“I was struck by the masculinity, the strength, and the delicacy of the men, and the elegance and fluidity of the women, how their movements seemed endless, so long. And their expression; I think it was as if each of those artists were a principal dancer. Even the corps de ballet seemed to have a certain brilliance,” Carla Eugenia Treviño, a ballet dancer, said.

“I really liked how balanced and well-rehearsed it was,” Ms. Treviño added. “The costumes were also amazing, the color combinations were incredible. You could see the details, all the headdresses and everything.”

Teresa Uribe, the director of gastronomy at the Universidad Regiomontana, said, “It really was an incredible show. I’m in awe of how they perform each of the acrobatics, the music. I loved everything from start to finish.”

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from “China before communism.” Theatergoers shared their emotions after seeing the show.

Jorge Mario Blanco, a businessman, said, “Very good, it really took me back in time, to the whole history of China, and especially the cultural aspect and the message. The combination, the power of the spiritual and how to apply it to the earthly realm, that was the most valuable thing for me—and through art, which is what’s interesting, through dance. Yes, highly, highly recommended.”

“I was fascinated by the music,” Pastor Lauro Alberto Roybal Herrera said. “The conductor did a magnificent job, as did the people who were introducing and explaining the stories. Every dance has a story. So that’s what struck me; everything, the entire production, is extraordinary but the stage, the set design, is spectacular.

“Maybe many of us focus on the dance, which is impeccable, right? It’s something extraordinary that you go in expecting to see. You leave with your heart full of something extraordinary. But the cinematography, the work that goes into making this, looks almost magical and also gives us an insight into Chinese culture that is very interesting, and above all else.”

“It just gave me goosebumps,” Ms. Treviño said. “But that also makes it spectacular. How amazing to see all these geniuses—the choreographers, the musical director, the composer—working together. It was beautiful.”
