HIGH WYCOMBE, UK—Shen Yun Performing Arts delighted Partrica and Claudia Morales at the Wycombe Swan Theatre on Feb. 21.

Ms. Partrica Morales, a service advisor, said Shen Yun was “amazing—bright, beautiful colors; amazing dancers; beautiful, uplifting music.”

“I love the comedy as well,” she said.

Ms. Claudia Morales, a police officer, said, “I’m just amazed at the moment. This is just something completely different—different culture, different styles of dance. Everything that I’ve seen is just very impressive overall.”

The opening scene, as the curtains open, shows deities following the divine Creator to Earth to lay the foundations of Chinese civilization.

Ms. Partrica Morales said, “The idea of a Creator, you should really always have that in mind daily. It doesn’t matter what inspires you, but something does. So that’s lovely. I think that comes across.”

One story, set in modern China, called “The Steadfast Heart, “reflects the reality of persecution faced by countless people of faith and dissidents in China today. Ms. Partrica Morales found the piece about the persecution of a mother and son who follow the faith Falun Dafa (or Falun Gong)—a meditation discipline guided by the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance—very moving.

According to Shen Yun’s website, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) believes that China’s spiritual and cultural traditions are a threat to its rule. That is why the first thing it did when it took power was to try to wipe these traditions out, and why it continues to suppress them. The communist regime today continues to persecute and suppress faiths like Falun Gong. Many who practice Falun Gong in China have died from the regime’s human rights abuses of organ harvesting.

Ms. Claudia Morales said that for her, the dance story “Scholarly Affection” was especially intriguing. It tells the story of a young girl who wanted an education and disguised herself as a boy to do so. And when things don’t go the way she planned, she finds a new friend in the chaos. “I like that,” she said.

Shen Yun features a live orchestra that plays original music to support what’s happening on stage.

“I love the music,” Ms. Claudia Morales said. “How it’s all perfectly timed as well and again, expresses the emotion and the storyline that they’re trying to put across. I enjoyed that.”

Ms. Partrica Morales found it heartening. “The music’s lovely. What I find is that it’s just really uplifting, and then all of a sudden it goes, it’s soft and gentle. It just carries you to a different place so quickly. The tempo changes, but you don’t even notice it,” she said.

Shen Yun shares traditional Chinese values of compassion and tolerance and other virtues. “It’s much needed,” Ms. Partrica Morales said.

“More than ever, really. Yes, definitely,” Ms. Claudia Morales said.

Both Morales had words of support for Shen Yun. “I think it goes to show all the training, all the effort, time, and dedication they’ve put into it. It really pays off,” Ms. Claudia said. “I think just for them to know the audience does really enjoy it.”

“Amazing dedication, beautiful performance, I’m just speechless. Lovely,” Ms. Partrica Morales said.
