WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.—Shen Yun Performing Arts performed at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in Dreyfoos Hall on April 30. Thomas Salvatore attended the performance with Ruthann Eckert, who performs in dance and theater, and her son.

Mr. Salvatore, a massage therapist, said this was his second time to see Shen Yun. He loved how the performance reached to the heart of the audience. “The theme is to do it through your heart, so you can really feel that in the performance.”
Through classical Chinese dance and music, Shen Yun is sharing with the world the beauty of China’s authentic 5,000 years of history. Since its founding in 2006, the company has received worldwide accolades for its mission to revive traditional Chinese culture.

He recommended this for everyone in how to live life. “It’s just a presence. It’s a mindfulness in everything that you do, and when you live your life or express yourself through the heart, it’s powerful, so it can move you.”

Shen Yun poured out a powerful energy that resonated with him. “100 percent from the source, I guess, from the Creator,” Mr. Salvatore said.

Ms. Eckert, who has performed in plays and on TV shows, said, “I loved the athleticism with the dancing and how powerful their dancing is.” She said her son told her about Shen Yun. “Yes, he introduced me to this show. I would have never seen it or known about it.”

“Just basically, the dance has so much feeling in it, and like I was saying, they’re all athletes in addition to [being] dancers.” She watched the dancers’ moves—and recalled her own dancing. “When I was watching them doing the tumbling—the gymnastics part, it was making me feel like I used to feel when I did that. It was making me remember how the body moves.”
The music also impressed Mr. Salvatore. “I love it. Can you get it on a CD? I want the soundtrack.” He expressed his love for opera and how the singers used the same bel canto technique as opera singers. “I love the opera. That singing was wonderful.”

The lyrics spoke of the end time. “The lyrics, the words, and then the performers’ tones—Her voice was amazing.  I did [hear that]: a beginning and an end. I remember that in the beginning, the first line is about the impermanence of life. I don’t remember what the exact words were, but it talked about that.”

Ms. Eckert said, “I’ve loved every single second of it. It’s very powerful and very moving.”

Shen Yun’s Music Is ‘Inspirational’

The Shen Yun performance was a special event for Jillian Falco, who attended with her daughter and sister, Brittany Markin.

Ms. Falco said, “It has been fantastic. It has been a truly beautiful experience to have my daughter go, and my sister go, as a gift from our stepmother. They gave us these tickets as a Christmas gift, and we are just so thrilled to be able to share this together.”

Ms. Falco said the music impressed her. “I think the music’s beautiful. I love that it’s, I don’t know, it’s just a little … I’m trying to think of the word.”

“Inspirational,” Ms. Markin finished for her sister. “It is inspirational music.”
With shows scheduled in over 200 cities and across five continents, the 2024 touring season is shaping up to be the artists’ busiest yet.
