SYDNEY, Australia—Jacqui Munro, a member of the New South Wales Parliament, had a wonderful time at Shen Yun Performing Arts’ March 27 performance at the Sydney Lyric.
“It’s such a beautiful show and a beautiful expression of culture. So, we’re very lucky to be able to see this in Sydney,” she exclaimed.
The spread of atheism rapidly undermined belief in the divine, and the cherished virtues drawn from Buddhism, Daoism, and Confucianism were swept away.
Ms. Munroe was particularly impressed by the company’s innovative use of a 3D digital backdrop, which collaborated seamlessly with the dancers on stage to enhance storytelling.
“The animation is really fun, and the way that it interacts with the performers is quite unique,” she said. “I was amazed at the different timings that they got so right, whether it was with the music or on screen.”
Reflecting on the company’s present-day story dance that raised awareness about the Chinese Communist Party’s ongoing persecution of the people of faith in China, Ms. Munro said it’s very important that “we encourage free expression and free speech.”
“It’s really valuable that performances like Shen Yun can come to Australia and come to Sydney and be enjoyed by many audiences of such diversity.”
She also appreciated the deeper messages conveyed through the performance.
“It’s such an important part of why we come to these things—to experience a cultural message in a different form.”
When asked how she would describe Shen Yun to friends and family who have not yet seen it, Ms. Munro said she would “let people know about how beautiful it is, how varied the performances are.”
