SYDNEY, Australia—Professor of law and foundation dean Augusto Zimmermann said Shen Yun Performing Arts is one of the best performances he’s seen as he stepped out of the company’s matinee on March 26, at the Sydney Lyric.
“It was absolutely amazing, one of the best shows I have ever watched in my whole life,” Mr. Zimmerman exclaimed.
“It’s teaching us the history and culture of the Chinese people, and also, unfortunately, the sufferings that they have to endure at this very moment.”
Based in New York, Shen Yun was founded in 2006 by elite Chinese artists who had fled the persecution of the Communist Party.
For millennia, China’s civilization flourished under the shared belief that the Divine will bless those who uphold traditional moral values. Tragically, within just a few decades of the communist party’s violent takeover, these beliefs were erased and replaced with atheism.
Today, the artists’ mission is to return to the world’s stage the glory and beauty of China’s 5,000 years of divinely inspired culture, while also raising awareness for the ongoing human rights issues in present-day China
Mr. Zimmerman was especially moved by the artists’ depiction of heaven and traditional Chinese spirituality.
“It really changed me, it made me very emotional,” he shared.
“I think it was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever experienced in my whole life, especially when the singer was connecting the whole culture with the Creator, and the importance of the Divine in our lives. That really touched my heart a lot, and I felt very emotional about what I watched. It was fantastic,” he said.
“I think everybody has to watch [Shen Yun] to feel touched by the message. The message is very important in this day and age, where there’s so much despair and so much suffering. We can see that the Chinese have a legacy to give to us—a legacy of liberty, a legacy of freedom, a mandate of heaven for us to live a godly, happy life.”
Highly trained in the classic bel canto style, known for producing the most beautiful and pure tone, Shen Yun singers bring original songs to the stage that delve into the deeper meanings of life.
Reflecting on reported threats made against Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and the theatre at the time of the artists’ arrival in Australia, Mr. Zimmerman stated that such challenges only reinforce the need to “overcome evil with good.”
Shen Yun “must be congratulated on their fantastic achievements. From now on, I will be an unconditional supporter of this show,” he shared.
“I wish all the actors all the best because they are doing the right thing. They are making our lives much more exciting as a result.”
The show was “unforgettable and magnificent, and I will never forget what I have watched.”
