AMNÉVILLE, France—On Dec. 21, Shen Yun Performing Arts concluded the final performance of its five-show run at Galaxie Amnéville, marking a successful kickoff to its 2026 world tour.

Among the enthusiastic audience members was Lydia Alegria, a high school art teacher and deputy principal who traveled from Luxembourg to attend the matinee. She thoroughly loved every element of the performance.

“I really enjoyed the performance. It’s very lively, with lots of colors, so it feels very vibrant. It’s very beautiful to watch,” she said.

“The dancing is also impressive. It immerses us a bit in Chinese culture. It’s something we don’t really know here, so it’s been very beautiful to see.”

A big fan favorite at Shen Yun is the company’s innovative 3D digital backdrop, which collaborates seamlessly with performers on stage to enhance storytelling. Ms. Alegria, too, found it magical.

“I think the audience was very impressed by the screen effects. It’s something we hadn’t seen before, so it’s very impressive to watch how the characters come out of the screen,” she shared.

As one of the oldest civilizations, China’s 5,000 years of history are filled with breathtaking legends and rich traditions. Yet, within just a few decades of the Chinese communists’ rise to power, much of this magnificent culture was destroyed.
Today, New York-based Shen Yun is working to revive this lost civilization and bring the beauty of pre-communist China back to the world through dance and music.

As an educator, Ms. Alegria felt that the traditional values conveyed through Shen Yun’s story-based dances are vital to the growth and development of society.

“It’s true that these values are very important today. Truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance—these are also the values we try to instill in our young people,” she explained.

“When we see what’s happening in the world today, it’s sad to see them disappearing. That’s why it’s good to see a performance like this.”

Ms. Alegria was especially touched by the dance piece that raises awareness about the communist regime’s violent persecution of people of faith in China.

“The story is very current. It really moved me,” she said. “I do sense a kind of spiritual awakening. Everyone has their own spirituality, and especially today, it’s important to show it and to respect each form of spirituality.”

If given the opportunity to speak to Shen Yun performers, she would encourage them to “continue coming to Europe and showing the splendor of Chinese culture and dance.”
