HONOLULU—Company executive Earl Hurrey had always wanted to see Shen Yun Performing Arts, drawn by the beauty of its production. On the evening of May 9 at the Blaisdell Concert Hall.
“I thought the music and the dances were just absolutely amazing, breathtaking. It was beautiful,” he shared happily. “Each story is different and entertaining in its own way. They’re just all fabulous.”
The production is comprised of a series of short pieces that take its audience on a ride through the dynasties and across the vast regions of China. Using classical Chinese, folk, and ethnic dances, as well as solo musical performances, Shen Yun tells tales from ancient times to the modern day.
Mr. Hurrey especially enjoyed the company’s live orchestra. He thought the musicians were “wonderful, fantastic, and very professional.”
Seamlessly blending the grandeur of a Western orchestra with the ethereal beauty of Chinese melodies, the musicians produce a profound emotional range that captures the depth of the human experience.
The performers “are absolutely amazing, talented, wonderful people,” Mr. Hurrey praised.
Also in the audience was financial planner Bob Rich. He, too, thought the performance was “very delightful, very beautiful, lots of fun to watch, very colorful and enlightening.”
He loved “all the vibrant colors, and all the great dancing and the choreography.”
Moreover, Mr. Rich was deeply moved by the spiritual depth of the performance. He appreciated that Shen Yun’s performers are standing up against persecution by the Chinese Communist Party to revive traditional culture and raise awareness about the ongoing suppression of faith in China.
The song’s lyrics conveyed “the idea that being atheist, not believing in a higher power leads you on a path to nowhere. So, when you believe in a higher power, you have more to live for,” he shared.
Given the chance, he’d like to tell the performers: “Thank you for coming and thank you for fighting the power and trying to guide people to a higher spirit.”
