SYDNEY, Australia—Randwick City Councilor Bill Burst experienced Shen Yun Performing Arts for the first time on March 27, at the Sydney Lyric. He was mesmerized by the beauty and vibrancy of the evening performance.
“It’s amazing. The way it started—the vibrancy, people are happy, they feel free,” Mr. Burst said during intermission. “It’s been amazing so far. I’m looking forward to the second half of the show. It’s very, very inspiring.”
Mr. Burst especially enjoyed the story-based dance inspired by the Monkey King from the classical novel “Journey to the West.”
“To me, the monkey was a metaphor for good over evil,” Mr. Burst shared. “This rock became [sentient], and then he defended his people in his community and made sure that everybody was happy. So, the monkey was probably my most inspired piece.”
Relating the story to the present-day, he believes it carried a meaningful message that “we have to [strive to do good] every day.”
“It’s up to people to stand up and fight for good over evil. You need people to be heroes and stand up for that, and the monkey was the hero,” he shared.
“We’re all here [on earth] to do something good in life and be positive, and that’s why I stood as a councilor, to make a positive difference in my community.”
“It adds a lot of vibrancy,” he said. “It brings a great mix, and it adds more depth to the story that’s been told.”
“It’s important that we help other people and we’re nice to other people. It comes back to good over evil. Let’s all be good people, be nice to everybody. It’s a beautiful world to live in.”
“It’s got great dance interpretation of stories, it’s very bright and vibrant, and it’s certainly worth coming to see,” he shared. “I would certainly be coming back again.”
