THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.—On Jan. 30, Shen Yun Performing Arts opened the first of its three consecutive performances at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.
Among those in attendance was actor and producer Daniel Haro, who, after hearing about Shen Yun for the past two years, finally had the opportunity to see the performance in person.
For Mr. Haro, Shen Yun was “very informative [and] entertaining.”
“It’s a look into the past [and] what’s coming in the future,” he said. “It’s something that’s not only something for Asian people to see, but for all people in the world. I’m excited, and I’m enjoying it.”
In the decades following the communist takeover of China, traditional Chinese culture was pushed to the brink of extinction. Today, these New York-based artists are working to revive China’s 5,000 years of divinely inspired culture and share with the world the beauty of China before communism.
As a producer and fellow artist, Mr. Haro praised the company’s production quality as “tremendous.”
“In dance or play or painting, everybody can look at it and have totally different opinions of it. … Politics divides us, race divides us, ethnicity divides us, but art is the one thing that unites us.”
Shen Yun’s performance is comprised of a series of short pieces that take its audience on a journey through the dynasties and across the vast regions of China. Using classical Chinese, folk, and ethnic dances, as well as solo musical performances, the artists tell tales from ancient times to the present day.
“God has blessed us,” he expressed. “God has given us the art, God has given us culture, God has given us humanity. We should take from it and learn, and that’s the beauty of this.”
Reflecting on his evening, Mr. Haro encouraged everyone to seize the opportunity and experience Shen Yun for themselves. “It is a unique experience that should be experienced by all,” he said.
