CHEYENNE, Wyo.—On March 31, Cheyenne City Councilman Mark Moody attended Shen Yun Performing Arts’ evening show at the Cheyenne Civic Center. This was his fourth time watching the show, and Mr. Moody said warmly that “it’s great as always.”

He brought a letter welcoming Shen Yun and congratulating the artists on their 20th anniversary.
Mr. Moody wrote in the letter that: “Now celebrating its 20th anniversary, Shen Yun has become a global phenomenon, inspiring and uplifting millions around the world. … This family-friendly production serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of faith, compassion, and the pursuit of a better society.”

As one of the world’s oldest civilizations, China’s 5,000 years of history are rich with breathtaking legends and time-honored traditions. Yet within just a few decades of the Chinese communists’ rise to power, much of this magnificent culture was destroyed.

The spread of atheism rapidly undermined belief in the divine, and the cherished virtues drawn from Buddhism, Daoism, and Confucianism were swept away.

Today, New York–based Shen Yun is working to revive this lost civilization and to bring back, through dance and music, the beauty of China before communism.

Mr. Woody agrees wholeheartedly with this mission. He especially enjoyed the story dances that raised awareness about the communist regime’s violent persecution of the people of faith in China.

“I really like the fact that [Shen Yun is] showing traditional Chinese culture and also showing the horrors [that are] unfortunately still happening with the Chinese Communist Party,” he said.

I issued the letter “to show support. We have freedom here, unlike in communist China. We’ve got to emphasize that, especially on [America’s] 250th birthday this year. It’s also to show my support and to continue to pray for the people that are, right now, being persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party.”

Mr. Wood also loved the spiritual depth of the performance. He was particularly touched by scenes depicting divine beings descending from the heavens to offer comfort and hope to those who suffer.
“I was especially [moved] when [the protagonist] came out of the prison and then the divine, or God, came out there to give hope,” Mr. Moody stated. “Hopefully, that'll be the hope for the people that are currently facing persecution.”

He added that Shen Yun is very unique and stands apart from other performances.

“Not only does it show the traditions, it’s also based on faith, which is very important right now in our country,” Mr. Moody shared.
“We need it more than ever, not just here, but around the world. Definitely, [Shen Yun] makes you feel better at the end of the day. So, I definitely recommend everybody go see it.”
