Mr. Stewart, a dentist, said, “It’s enlightening to see the Chinese culture come out in this way,” especially under the circumstances that he had come across what he described as “controversy with the program.” As a result, Mr. Stewart was very happy with his decision to come and see it for himself: “It seems appropriate that we engage in this and find out what this is all about.”
The result? “It’s an outstanding show”; Mr. Stewart said that he saw “freedom to worship” being depicted in the program, and that “people [in China] suffer greatly because of what they believe in isn’t what the government wants.”
“We’re very lucky here. We take that for granted a lot of times,” he said.
Shen Yun’s mini dance dramas draw upon thousands of years of history, all the way to present-day stories. Mrs. Stewart said, “The story they’re portraying is important. Any way that we can support what’s going on, we want to. So this has been a really big blessing to be here today.”
“I’m absolutely loving it. It is so beautiful, the choreography, the skill of these performers is top of the world,” Mrs. Stewart said. “It’s incredible watching them really shine in their skills.”
Mr. Stewart said the show very timely and added that he welcomes the hope it brings.
“This is really the right time for this kind of show to have a higher profile because so many people are looking for something to believe in. This world is a tough place to live in a lot of times, and there isn’t a lot of hope out there. So I think it’s important that the spirituality is brought in,” he said.
