PHOENIX—Brenda Anderson, an executive at a legal services firm, enjoyed an enchanting afternoon watching Shen Yun Performing Arts together with her mother and sister-in-law in Phoenix Symphony Hall on March 5.

Ms. Anderson said that she and her 87-year-old mother watched Shen Yun a few years ago, and since her mom wanted to watch it again, “so here we are!”

“[The performance] is very heartfelt, touching, and beautiful.” Ms. Anderson said, “It’s sending a message to the world, we need more love and kindness. We need to be more caring. Out with the evil and in with the good, right?”

Based in New York, Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company, with a mission to revive 5,000 years of China’s divinely inspired heritage and share with audiences the beauty of China before communism.
Ms. Anderson is grateful to Shen Yun for bringing Chinese culture to different places in the world, “[Shen Yun] brings the culture here so those who aren’t from [China] can experience it, to be able to understand a little bit more about the Chinese culture. It’s nice to get a feel for that culture here and have it done in a beautiful way.”

Speaking about Shen Yun’s dance dramas that depict the destruction of traditions and spiritual belief in China, “it’s brave of them to be willing to put it out there and be in a show like this, it’s very courageous.” Ms. Anderson said, “They have love and respect and tradition and grace.’

Ms. Anderson’s sister-in-law, Michelle Anderson, continued to say, “I was really surprised that they couldn’t perform in their own country. That’s sad. That is so sad, because it’s probably the best thing from their country.”

The ladies appreciated the storytelling presented through Shen Yun’s dance pieces. “I love the meaning behind it. I love the dancers, the emcees, the costumes, the colors, the backdrop, never seen something like this before.” Ms. Anderson said.
Michelle was also moved by the spiritual aspect of the performance, she said, “the world needs all the love and hope, the togetherness and kindness.”
