HOUSTON—Retired company president Mike Wolf attended Shen Yun Performing Arts for the first time on the evening of Dec. 30, at the Jones Hall for the Performing Arts. He was deeply captivated by the beauty and quality of the production.
“It’s fantastic. Very impressive. They’re incredibly talented,” he said. “You can tell these people put a lot of time, effort, and labor into what they do—just to move like that. I can’t move like that. So, it’s very impressive.”
Its program is comprised of a series of short pieces that takes its audience on a journey through the dynasties and across China’s vast regions. Using classical Chinese, folk, and ethnic dances, as well as solo musical performances, Shen Yun tells tales from ancient times to the modern day.
Mr. Wolf particularly enjoyed the story-based dances. “The storytelling is very interesting. I didn’t even know the culture that’s behind all of it—I had no idea, so it’s really interesting,” he shared.
“99.9% of the population, they’re just people, and they just want to live. So, oppression is always very difficult to have to deal with,” he said. “I’ve traveled all over the world, and you see that. It’s always just a few people at the top that stop everybody else.”
Summing up his experience, Mr. Wolf said the spirit of Shen Yun is “very inspirational.”
