TUCSON, Ariz.—Music teacher Mary O’Neil and her husband Gene, a pilot and a marketing professional, attended Shen Yun’s evening show at the Linda Rondstadt Music Hall on Feb. 11. The couple was stunned by the beauty and the spirit of the performance.

A musician herself, Mrs. O’Neil thought Shen Yun’s music was truly divine. “I loved the blend of the East and the West. The [two-stringed erhu] was just out of this world. It’s just so etheric, it brings heaven to earth.”

According to its website, Shen Yun’s orchestra is the first in the world to permanently combine classical Western and Chinese instruments. Seamlessly blending traditional Eastern melodies with powerful Western orchestration, Shen Yun’s music has won the praise of musicians and critics worldwide.

Speaking of Shen Yun Performing Arts’ mission to revive China’s 5,000 years of divine-inspired culture, Mrs. O’Neil said she loved how spiritual the performance is.

“I’m crying right now. It’s so beautiful,” she said.

“It’s truly divine—[Shen Yun] unites the whole world, and that’s what’s most important,” Mr. O’Neil said. ”The most important aspect is for everyone to remember who they really are.”

Based in New York, Shen Yun was founded in 2006 by artists seeking to revive China’s authentic culture that was destroyed by the country’s decades of communist rule. Prior to the regime’s spread of atheism, spirituality and the belief in the divine formed the basis of Chinese life.

“We are all divine and we are all waking up. Shen Yun does a wonderful job in reminding people what they have forgotten and what they need to remember,” he said.

Mr. O’Neil said that not only is Shen Yun’s theme magnificent, it displays “the true unity humanity.”

Today, Shen Yun is the world’s top classical Chinese dance and music company. To satisfy popular demand, it has grown to include eight equally-sized companies that perform yearly to packed venues around the world.

If she gets the chance, Mrs. O’Neil would like to tell the Shen Yun artists, “thank you from the bottom of our hearts,“ for highlighting the principles of truth, compassion, and forbearance—”they came across very beautifully and it’s a message for all humanity.”

“Every time they perform the show, they uplift everyone who’s watching,” she said.

“[Shen Yun] is an antidote to this crazy world—it helps to heal everyone,” he said.
