HOLLYWOOD, Calif.—Angela Tang was deeply impressed with Shen Yun’s artistry after watching the performance on May 3 in Hollywood for the first time.

“It’s awesome. It’s an awesome show. It’s unbelievable. It’s indescribable,” she said.

Ms. Tang, a former Licensing Program Analyst for the state of California, was especially impressed with Shen Yun’s digital backdrop.

Shen Yun’s patented digital backdrop is one of a kind. The versatility of technology allows the set to change scenes in the blink of an eye.

The New York-based company’s programs feature more than a dozen vignettes, including musical solos, classical Chinese dance, and ethnic and folk dances.
Ms. Tang also highlighted the emcee’s witty storytelling, saying it allowed her to appreciate everything more and that she could understand exactly what was going on.

“I love the storytelling. It was amazing,” Ms. Tang, who watched the performance with her father, said. “I’m really impressed.”

Since 2006, Shen Yun’s mission has been to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization, or “China before communism,” through music and dance.
