GENEVA—The Shen Yun performance left a deep impression on the Geneva audience. Among the audience members, a former professional dancer and an event photographer shared complementary testimonials, combining artistic admiration, emotion, and spiritual reflection.
For Michèle Grosjean, a former professional dancer, the artists’ technical mastery leaves no room for doubt: “Extraordinary. ... They lift their legs to the side and hold them there without moving, it’s extraordinary. Everything is perfected, all the movements, the arms. Anyone will tell you that it’s more than beautiful!”
“This is the second time I’ve seen it, and if possible, I'll come back again,” said Mrs. Grosjean.
The costumes play a big part in this visual immersion: “I love the colors, the shades of pink and blue, the dresses. ... it was truly fabulous, breathtaking.”
As a freelance event photographer, Jacques Quentin observes the show with a seasoned eye: “In terms of costumes, dances, choreography, and the dancers’ positions, it’s truly magnificent.”
Seated in the front row, he highlights the ingenuity of the digital staging: “The optical effects with the 3D screen are very well done. It feels like the dancers are moving from the screen to the stage, almost like in a movie.”
He is also impressed by the musical precision: “You can see that a lot of work has gone into it, even the synchronization with the music and the orchestra. It’s perfect.”
Presenting 5,000 Years of Culture and Spirituality
For 5,000 years, Chinese civilization developed around the belief that the divine blesses those who respect traditional moral values. Within just a few decades after the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) violently seized power, these beliefs were banned and replaced with atheism. The mission of Shen Yun’s artists is precisely to revive on the world stage the splendor and beauty of these 5,000 years of divinely inspired Chinese culture—a culture that the CCP considers a threat to its ideological control. It is for this reason that the company is still unable to perform in China today.
