NEW YORK—During their first time seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts, Christine and Gary Morgan thoroughly enjoyed the performance at the David H. Koch Theater on April 11.

Mr. Morgan, a retail manager, said the experience was “Absolutely brilliant.” What stood out for him was “the history, the color, and the vibration of movement. Absolutely breathtaking. [And] the coordination of the dancers and the history, of course,” he said.

Shen Yun made a strong impression on Mrs. Morgan, an executive at JPMorgan Chase. “The impact for me is the colors. It just makes you appreciate life. It’s just like breath, air. We’re absolutely floored. It’s an amazing show.

“We’ve heard about it for years,” Mrs. Morgan said, “and we’re so glad we finally got a chance to see it. It’s great.”

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from “China before communism.” Throughout its history, Chinese civilization has respected the universal values of compassion and tolerance.

Mrs. Morgan said, “It was beautiful. The water [sleeves] dance was spectacular. That was breathtaking.”

The Morgans shared how deeply it touched them. Mrs. Morgan said that when her husband likes something, “he presses my hand.”

“The Monkey King [story] was funny when we first saw the video interaction,” Mrs. Morgan said, “And then when the older gentleman changed to the younger guy, I was like, ‘How did they do that?’”

Mr. Morgan called it “magic.”

An audience favorite is the patented digital backdrop technology that allows the performers to interact during the dances.

Mrs. Morgan enjoyed that. “I liked the way they brought the video in with the spiritual part. I appreciated it, and it made me think that miracles can happen.”

The couple shared their thoughts on the performance. In describing Shen Yun to others, Mrs. Morgan said, “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that they should take a chance on. It’s definitely a must-see.”

Mr. Morgan agreed. “Definitely a must see—the movement, the color, the training.”

“And the artistry, you said, too,” Mrs. Morgan said. “You said, ‘Wow, I can’t believe how much they move like that.’”

“The synchronization of the dancers together as well,” Mr. Morgan added.
