WOKING, UK—The Dobson family, Andy, Bella, and their daughter Lilia, enjoyed their first performance of Shen Yun Performing Arts at the New Victoria Theatre on Jan. 25.
Mrs. Dobson thought it distressing that the Chinese people cannot enjoy a performance of their own culture as it’s part of their own history.
Mr. Dobson, a recent retiree in advertising, said the performance was “quite mystical.”
Mrs. Dobson, who works in the legal field, agreed. “It’s beautiful to watch, and the costumes and the color and how the dancers are in synchronization with one another, it’s just stunning!”
“Very graceful. I’ve never seen anything like it in my life,” Mr. Dobson said.
Every Shen Yun performance features the Shen Yun Orchestra performing original music. Shen Yun’s singers, trained in the traditional bel canto method, also share their talent.
Mrs. Dobson said, “Seeing how the tenor singer is able to convey all the emotion and the strength and power in what he’s singing was very moving.”
Ms. Dobson said she was “filled with awe and wonder. I feel like it’s like a little bit of magic.”
The Dobsons said they appreciated Shen Yun’s mission to revive traditional culture.
“I was thinking about that when I was watching it,” Ms. Dobson said. “It made me think about how important it is to know about culture, and how fulfilling it can feel to not just know about what’s going on now, but what’s happened in the past. So I think it’s really important,” Ms. Dobson said.
The Dobsons enthusiastically recommended Shen Yun. “I just found it a visual extravaganza,” Mrs. Dobson said, “but also the history element is really important. I didn’t know a lot of what I saw today.
Mr. Dobson said he would recommend Shen Yun as it’s “definitely a magical show.”
