AMNÉVILE, France—On Dec. 19, company president Jean-Pierre Eudier attended Shen Yun Performing Arts for the first time at Galaxie Amnéville. Exiting the theatre following the matinee, he could not have been more satisfied with the experience.

“The dance is simply magnificent. ... It shows China with a radiant sun, and today a sun that shines a bit less—that’s what the performance conveyed,” he said. “There is a beautiful balance between the classical world and the modern world.”

The New York-based Shen Yun was founded in 2006 by elite Chinese artists who had fled persecution by the communist party.

For 5,000 years, China’s civilization flourished under the shared belief that the divine will bless those who uphold traditional moral values. Tragically, within just a few decades of the communist party’s violent takeover, these beliefs were erased and replaced with atheism.

Shen Yun’s mission is to bring the glory and beauty of China’s 5,000 years of divinely inspired culture.

Mr. Eudier appreciates the artists’ effort and thinks the story-dance raising awareness for the ongoing persecution of people of faith in present-day China is “important to highlight.”

“We must respect those who fight for their values,” he expressed. “I know this history—people being oppressed for their beliefs and knowledge.”

For Mr. Eudier, the Chinese communist government and the Chinese people represent “two different things.” “There are the people, and many of them do good work. I’m happy to work with them.”

Another aspect of the performance he deeply enjoyed was Shen Yun’s live orchestra, which intricately blends Western musical traditions with ancient Chinese melodies.

“I have nothing negative to say—it’s wonderful. Simply magnificent,” he exclaimed. “Everything is excellent.”

As the first orchestra in the world to permanently combine ancient Chinese folk instruments—such as the erhu, a two-stringed instrument, and the pipa, an ancient lute—with classical Western orchestration, Shen Yun’s music produces a profound emotional range that captures the depth of the human experience.

In closing, Mr. Eudier said he would like to thank all of Shen Yun’s artists “for their performance, for the joy they bring, and the happiness they share with everyone.”
