MANCHESTER, UK—World renowned Shen Yun Performing Arts is known for bringing to life 5,000 years of Chinese civilization, from tales of legendary heroes, comedic episodes from famous novels, glimpses into imperial palaces of various dynasties, and slices of daily life in various regions of the Middle Kingdom.

Luigi Coronato, who recently retired from the Italian Foreign Ministry, turned to his wife during the performance and remarked on how very energetic the performance was.

“I’m saying there’s boundless energy there,” he said after seeing the performance at the Palace Theatre on Jan. 16.

“It’s lively, it’s bright. It’s very visual, music is lovely,” he said.

He described story-based dances aided by an animated backdrop with flying pigs, a live orchestra, and even a profound message underlying the experience.

“They’re trying to sort of make you understand about human life, how it should be led, good and bad and so on. So it’s basically a message to people on how they maybe should live their lives,” Mr. Coronato said.

New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company, with a mission to share with the world China before communism.
For thousands of years, China had been known as the land of the divine, and its culture was divinely inspired. Chinese civilization drew morals and principles from Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism, and thus, society was a spiritually focused one.

Mr. Coronato felt that spiritual underpinning, and thought it beneficial to an interested audience.

“It’s a message that’s given. Then it depends on the person whether they can take that on and maybe improve their own situation,” he said. “I mean, it’s good to we’ve come to see an entertainment. Basically, if it leaves a bit of a message, then that’s good.”

“It’s a show that’s worth coming to, to view. It’s a it’s a show that each person will go away with something different,” he said. “They may find the show just a lot of fun athleticism, and lovely storytelling. Some others may find deeper meanings within each story.”
