SALT LAKE CITY—Chip Browne saw Shen Yun Performing Arts on the evening of March 17 at the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Theater.

“It brings a lot of compassion out of me.” Browne said after watching Shen Yun, “I also do feel a connection to their beliefs and about the divinity and the definition of Shen Yun, ‘beauty of divine beings dancing.’ That’s beautiful. I just love it!”

Based in New York, Shen Yun Performing Arts is on a mission to present the beauty of “China before communism,” and revive people’s connection with 5,000 years of divinely inspired culture.
“I’m moved. Yeah. My heart is moved.” Browne continued, “The combination of dancing and recognizing the divinity in each of us, I’ve never put those two concepts together. So that’s beautiful in and of itself.”

Respect, Freedom, and Inspiration

Browne is a software release manager. He calls himself a “technical guy” who also “enjoys Shen Yun’s  multimedia” and “appreciates the classical dancing and the skill level.”

As for the Shen Yun artists, Browne could see “a lot of work that goes into this.” Therefore, Browne “really respects and really honors the people on the stage.”

Moreover, Browne felt sympathetic to the fact that Shen Yun can’t perform in China. “I understand a little bit about their history, their belief system,” he said, “this kind of performance is not allowed in China. I’m sympathetic to that. For me, each person on the stage actually represents a statement of freedom, of joy, of divinity, of self-expression. All of that’s very moving to me.”
He can sense that Shen Yun artists share the same passion. “Each person carries that exact feeling and motivation, that’s why they’re doing what they’re doing. It’s not just the physical thing. It’s actually belief in the freedom. So it’s very inspiring to me.”

Shen Yun Supported ‘I Will be Coming Back’

Shen Yun is a world premier classical Chinese dance and music company. With dance and music, the artists can express a variety of emotions and meanings. In the dance dramas, Browne saw how simple the traditional way of life can be.

“I’m a little entertained with some of the stories. It’s a little comedy and the simplicity, I enjoy that too,” he said, “I’m grateful that life can be simplified to good and evil. I love the idea of the good triumphing over the evil.”

Browne said that coming to watch the show is to show his support in a small way. “I will be coming back again, because I support this movement in a very small way by just being here. I support their belief system, their sacrifice. I believe in those principles, the principles of compassion and sympathy.”

Shen Yun a ‘Message of Beauty’

Knowing that Shen Yun is celebrating its 20th anniversary, Browne said, “That’s wonderful. Whoever started it, I bow to them. And I bow to each person who continues this work. It’s just fabulous. I pray that [Shen Yun] continues to grow. When he said that there are eight other companies, I thought, Yes!”

Browne appreciates the artistry of the dancers as well as the musicians. “I’m grateful. I don’t see this level of skill in classical dancing, and the voice, the two-string erhu, that was incredible!”

“I’m grateful that Shen Yun combines this excellence of performing arts and the classical dance. What they give to the world is important.” Browne concluded, “I’m grateful for the fact that they are successful and growing, the fact that they’re based in New York. I’m grateful because of the message of beauty.”
