BALTIMORE, Md.—Shen Yun Performing Arts played at Baltimore’s Hippodrome Theatre on April 18, taking audiences on a mesmerizing journey through ancient China, with classical Chinese dance and music.

“It’s divine, it’s tranquil, it’s excellence. I lack the words to describe it, if you’re not here. It captivates the soul,” Olatunde Odeyemi, an author, said.

“It was absolutely breathtaking, fabulous, energizing, educational. I just think that the dancers had such great artistry, and the acrobatic skills that are involved,” Rosemary Gibert, a retired director of acquisitions, said.

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from “China before communism.” Audience members resonated with the themes of hope and joy.

Mr. Odeyemi said, “It’s a lesson that somebody has to be responsible, that if something is being denied somewhere, the truth can still be taken somewhere else.”

“There is a message of hope, because I think that the more people realize that by giving, you actually enrich your own life, and not only enrich the life of others, but you’re also enriching your own life, your own immediate community, your immediate surroundings,” Ms. Gibert said. “I think that it is a good way to enlighten yourself and to actually spread a message of peace and joy.”

Based in New York, Shen Yun has been touring the world since 2006 and brings an all-new performance each year.

“Pause your doubts, pause your thoughts, pause your opinions, and come experience this yourself. In a world where science, artificial intelligence, and there’s so much noise. This is the best gift that you would give to yourself,” Mr. Odeyemi said.

Ms. Gibert said, “It’s absolutely highly recommended, and I think that it’s not only the beauty of the artistry of the performers, but it is the whole message.”

Shen Yun will perform in Newark, New Jersey, from April 29–May 3.
