ATLANTA—Grant Brantley, a senior judge, and his wife, Claudia Chadwick, a retired nurse, saw Shen Yun Performing Arts on Jan. 29 at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.
“I’m impressed with the strength, the fitness, and the agility of all the men and women. It’s phenomenal,” Mr. Brantley said.
Shen Yun is based in New York and its artists are trained in classical Chinese dance, one of the most comprehensive dance systems in the world.
“The athleticism of the dancers are just remarkable,” Ms. Chadwick said, who also said that she enjoyed the humor in the dance, “How the Monkey King Came to Be.”
“The physical aspect of the performers, they were very athletic, flexible. If I could just be that flexible, it would be wonderful,” Mr. Brantley said.
Out of all the dances, the one that left a lasting impression told the true story of Falun Dafa practitioners following the principles, Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. They are persecuted for their faith in present day China.
“I think it does provide the message about what is happening to the believers in China and how impressed they are and how they were incarcerated. That boy was blinded by CCP,” Mr. Brantley said.
Although Shen Yun is sharing the beauty of Chinese culture with the world, Shen Yun is unable to perform in China.
“I’m just impressed by the fact that this group of people have been doing this for 20 years, and unfortunately, they cannot do it in China because of the form of government they have. And I find that to be a distressing fact. But otherwise, the performance was uplifting to me just because of the energy in which they put into it,” Mr. Brantley said.
Shen Yun’s use of its digital backdrop is patented. The versatility of the technology allows the set to change scenes in the blink of an eye, giving the stage endless possibilities.
“I was impressed with the way the video melded with the performance,” Mr. Brantley said.
